DesignMarch 2025 - Shows that are open for longer

A fantastic DesignMarch has now come to an end for the 17th time. Close to two hundred exhibitions and events took place all over Reykjavík and the city was truly buzzing with life and creativity! We are extremely proud of the outstanding designers and architects that allow us to push the boundaries of the festival each year by sharing their wonderful minds and creations.
A few exhibitions are still up and running and will be for some time. You can find the list below!

Folds and Fractions
This book art exhibition features a diverse selection of artist books that show how the book form can function as a platform for innovation in design and art. The aim of the exhibition is to examine how the classic form of the book can be broken up and find new ways to work with the book in an unconventional way. The artists use their backgrounds in design, printmaking, textiles and mixed media to challenge traditional methods, push boundaries and explore how far one can go in transforming a book so that it can still be called a book, or an artist book.
-open until April 11th in Penninn Skeifan
Fró(u)n
How can we express love for the ground we live on? The concept of the earth as a lover encourages us to treat nature with affection rather than viewing it as an inexhaustible resource to exploit. Iceland's unique landscape deserves special attention, and through the creation of sensual massage tools crafted from Icelandic clay and porcelain, Antonía Berg and Elín Margot present bold, radical ways to rethink our relationship with the environment.
-open until April 12th in Kiosk
Born in the Extreme
A new collection by KATLA STUDIO in collaboration with tanner and artist Lene Zachariassen.
Katla and Lene have their separate art studios located in the old herring factory in Hjalteyri, North of Iceland, and share nature as their main source of inspiration.
-open until April 12th in Kiosk

The Virtual Bakery
The Virtual Bakery is a design studio that explores the space between the digital and the physical, creating objects that exist in both worlds. Using 3D printing, the studio transforms virtual forms into tangible creations, inviting a dialogue between imagination and materiality. Many designs are available as digital models, allowing them to be printed and brought to life at home, bridging the gap between maker and user.
-open until April 12th in Kiosk
Laboratory of Imagination
The sense of consciousness of the youngest visitors to the City Library is being exerted in the new and improved future library. The children enter the creative world of light & shadow as they depart Vita’s road on a special floor reserved for them in the future library.
-open on April 12th and 13th in Borgarbókasafn Grófin
Cozy with Aalto

TOBIA ZAMBOTTI™ x Polestar: Bold Visions for a Sustainable Future
During DesignMarch, the Polestar showroom will transform into a striking design laboratory where the visionary work of Tobia Zambotti converges with Polestar’s mission of sustainable innovation.
Zambotti, an Interior Designer renowned for his bold, contemporary, and environmentally driven concepts, presents four of his most iconic experimental statement pieces: Coat-19 (with Aleksi Saastamoinen), The Fan Chair, Reel, and Sea Level Rise Chair. Each of these works embodies a radical rethinking of materials, waste, and the role of design in shaping a more sustainable world—values that align seamlessly with Polestar’s commitment to accelerating the shift toward cleaner mobility through cutting-edge design and technology.
-open until April 16th in Polestar's showroom

Telling Time
This exhibition brings together the type design duo Or Type and the artist Pétur Geir Magnússon.
They have recently been in conversation about time and how it can be materialised. Time is captured, it is spent and much of it is wasted. Pétur’s bas-reliefs meet here with the letterforms of Or Type, resulting in artworks and clocks that discuss and take time away from us.
-open until April 17th in Rammagerðin
Reading Lava
The enduring beauty of Icelandic nature has long served as a source of inspiration for artists and designers. Snow-covered mountains, mossy landscapes, and vast lava fields – these dramatic elements of the terrain have profoundly influenced the creative dialogue between artists and designers Lilý Erla Adamsdóttir and Thora Finnsdóttir. Their ongoing collaboration debuts in this DesignMarch exhibition at Listval Gallery.
-open until April 19th in Listval
Photosynthesis
How does sound shape a space? How does light affect our well-being? In Bryndís Bolladóttir’s work, these fundamental elements merge into an experience that transforms the space and reveals invisible connections between material, environment, and perception.
The exhibition Photosynthesis is the culmination of an extensive development process based on Bryndís’s research into acoustics and spatial perception. She approaches architecture as a living system where the interplay of light and sound takes center stage. Her works emphasize well-being—how space can enhance our mood, reduce sensory overload, and create balance.
-open until April 24th in Asmundarsalur
Ocean Paint
At Ásmundarsalur, Dýpi presents a new ocean-based paint made from Icelandic calcified seaweed. In the depths of Arnarfjörður lies a hidden world of calcified algae, known for their purifying and health-enhancing properties. Over the past two years, Sirrý and Arný have worked on harnessing these qualities to develop a new product: Dýpi – Ocean Paint, a high-pH paint that naturally prevents mold and bacterial growth.
-open until April 24th in Asmundarsalur

Þórunn Árnadóttir - designer in residency
Þórunn is driven by curiosity, playfulness, and a deep interest in different cultures, materials, and production processes. She looks at things from a fresh perspective— a candle is not just a candle, as seen in the PyroPet candles she has designed, and a clock is not just a clock, her Sasa clock for example measures time with beads. Þórunn is the head designer and co-founder of the company 54°Celsius, together with Dan Koval.
-open until April 27th at The Museum of Design and Applied Arts
Economic interest and a story of a nation
An exploration through economic data and the history of the Icelandic nation, presented through both three-dimensional and two-dimensional media. The aim of the exhibition is to explore our relationship with metrics and data through three-dimensional and/or tangible representation.
-open until May 3rd at Gallery Port
Unndór Egill Jónsson
Unndór Egill Jónsson is an artist who creates unique furniture from Icelandic birch, blending natural and geometric forms. The concept behind his work revolves around merging these contrasting shapes in a way that each supports the other, creating a sense of unity. Craftsmanship plays a vital role in achieving this fusion. To emphasize its importance, Unndór has set up his workshop within the exhibition space.
-open until May 18th at The Museum of Design and Applied Arts
David Taylor: AT HAKK
David Taylor is a Scottish designer and silversmith who has spent decades working in Sweden. He is renowned for his unconventional approach to materials, particularly his use of industrial waste, which often stands in stark contrast to the refined craftsmanship traditionally associated with precious metals. Over the years, his career has evolved alongside his deep exploration of materials and form, where the precision of silversmithing intertwines with the raw, unpolished qualities of industrial metals.
-open until May 30th at Gallery Hakk

Germination
This DesignMarch, Fischersund Art and Music Collective unveils a new bottle design, by Ingibjörg Birgisdóttir, alongside the exclusive preview of No. 1, the first scent from the Faux Flora Collection.

Þraut - the path from skins to product
The Exhibition "Þraut" Provides Insight into the Design and Production of Products Made from Icelandic Lambskin. The natural form of lambskin challenges designers to view limitations as opportunities to create something unique. The exhibition, housed at Feldur’s flagship store, offers consumers the chance to gain a glimpse into the process—from raw material to finished product—and experience the trials and challenges involved in this long journey.
-open until August 3rd at Feldur workshop
Animated Geology
The project explores new ways to create shapes and objects without using traditional design software. It mainly uses computer programs that are used to create avatars, which allows users to sculpt in a way that feels like working with soft clay. Through these experiments, Brynjar has developed a style he calls "Animated Geology." He’s already made porcelain vases for Galerie Kreo in Paris using this method, and now he’s applying it to create relief murals in wood.
-open until August 31st at The Museum of Design and Applied Arts
