The Nature Conservation Agency receives recognition for best investment in design at the Icelandic Design Awards 2025 for its exceptional approach to developing Visitor Centres with a strong focus on design and architecture.

Elja Mountain bike wins Product of the year, Elliðaárstöð wins Place of the year and Fischersund wins Project of the year. Albína Thordarson architect wins Honorary Award and Náttúruverndarstofnun was awarded for best investment in design.

Albína Thordarson, architect, receives the Honorary Award of the Icelandic Design Awards 2025 for her outstanding contribution to architecture. She has established herself as one of Iceland’s foremost architects.

Elliðaárstöð is a new destination in Elliðaárdalur, offering a variety of spaces and experiences designed by the multidisciplinary design studio Terta in collaboration with Landslag.

The graphic designer, Hjalti Karlsson and Stefan Sagmeistar, one of the most influential contemporary designers take the stage at Harpa May 6th to share the stories behind their work - and their real life connection. Hjalti and Sagmeister are the two first speakers to be announced for next edition of DesignTalks.

The Icelandic Design Awards honours annually outstanding Icelandic design and architecture. The importance of design for society, both culture and business is steadily growing, and thus it is vital to award good design, highlight the value of quality and recognize great designers and architects.

The international conference DesignTalks took place on April 2nd 2025 with the theme the Source, like the DesignMarch festival itself. Dezeen teamed up with DesignMarch to livestream the conference that focused on materiality and sources for inspiration in the creative industry.

The Icelandic Design Award has opened for suggestions. Everybody can send in their suggestions, your own work or others until midnight September 3rd. With an open call, the goal is to ensure that excellent work does not pass by the jury. Therefore, we encourage owners of good works to nominate their own projects and work.

Today, Iceland Design and Architecture inaugurated the Icelandic Pavilion at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition—La Biennale di Venezia, by unveiling Lavaforming, a bold exploration of a future where urban infrastructure emerges from molten earth.

A fantastic DesignMarch has now come to an end for the 17th time. Close to two hundred exhibitions and events took place all over Reykjavík and the city was truly buzzing with life and creativity! We are extremely proud of the outstanding designers and architects that allow us to push the boundaries of the festival each year by sharing their wonderful minds and creations. The most exciting festival of the year, DesignMarch, is next week. The program is packed with creative and fun events, with well over a hundred exhibitions and openings and even more participants!

The sweet harbinger of spring, the most fun festival of the year and the harvest of Icelandic design is ahead, as DesignMarch takes place from April 2nd to 5th. Icelandic design in its most diverse form takes the stage as usual, with over hundred events and exhibitions this year and even more participants. Architecture, artifacts, fashion, product design, experiences, and much more will be on offer throughout the greater capital area, although the vast majority of the program is in downtown Reykjavík.
