First speaker at DesignTalks 2025 announced
Designer Fernando Laposse will be speaking at DesignTalks, taking place on the 2nd of April, with the theme of The Source.
Fernando Laposse specializes in transforming humble natural materials into refined design pieces. He has worked extensively with overlooked plant fibers indigenous to his native Mexico such as sisal, loofah, and corn leaves. In his work materials and their historical and cultural ties to a particular location and its people take center stage. He’s an important voice on the international design scene and is shortlisted for the Dezeen Awards 2024.
“There’s a beautiful connection to our theme in Fernando’s work. Not only in how he works with overlooked raw materials and indigenous communities, but also how he’s reconnecting with the past to create new beginnings. Furry furniture is not the first thing we think of when someone mentions Agave, Corn or Avocado. Yet that’s precisely what happens in Fernandos work. His sensibility and resilience leaves no one untouched.”

The DesignTalks programme will revolve around The Source in all its forms. Whether it’s taking a step back, a moment to clear our minds, reconnecting with the roots or restoring ourselves. The Source is also commonly used for a moment in time where something begins or springs into being, a source of ideas, a time for new beginnings.
