Civil Protection is all of us gets a special mention from the jury at the Icelandic Design Award 2021

In the recent years, the jury of the Icelandic Design Awards has acknowledged companies for best investment in design. It is no less important, however, to acknowledge investments in design by public authorities and institutions. Therefore, this year, the jury wanted to dedicate a special mention to acknowledge the professional approach and investment of the Directorate of Health and the Police Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management for the campaign “Civil Protection is all of us” and the information portal covid.is.

During unprecedented times the two institutions acted quickly and safely. This included hiring the advertising agency Hvíta húsið to conceptualize educational material, information providers, and coordination of measures to stem the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The result was an accessible and uplifting appearance to a complicated and challenging project; the illustrations add a humane feeling to the subject, the interface is clear and straightforward, and the guidelines and other printable material for companies and other workplaces is always up to date and well made. The tone is soft and flexible and encourages solidarity, which was exactly what was needed.

The integrative branding of COVID-19 Civil Protection is an exemplary investment in design and sets a precedent for governmental agencies.

Hvíta húsið: Davíð Terrazas (art director), Rósa Hrund Kristjánsdóttir (design manager), Ágúst Gunnarsson (web designer), Viktoria Buzukina (illustrator), Guðrún Jónsdóttir (animator), Þorgeir tryggvason (copywriting) and Eiríkur Guðleifsson (advisor).
