Dögg and Dýpi open the exhibition A Space Between States at 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen

Designer Dögg Guðmundsdóttir and the Icelandic ocean paint brand Dýpi have opened the exhibition A Space Between States at the Embassy of Iceland in Copenhagen as part of the 3daysofdesign festival. Inspired by the Icelandic landscape, the exhibition explores the relationship between design, time, memory, and sustainability.
The opening attracted a large audience, with visitors from around the world gathering to experience Dögg’s work alongside Dýpi’s ocean paint in a dialogue that reflects the influence of nature on materials, form, and atmosphere. The exhibition addresses sustainability in its broadest sense, not only through material choices, but also through the social and emotional value of design.
Iceland’s Ambassador to Copenhagen, Pétur Ásgeirsson, welcomed guests and officially opened the exhibition together with Halla Helgadóttir, Managing Director of Iceland Design and Architecture.
The exhibition features both new and recent works by Dögg Guðmundsdóttir. Some pieces were created for Snedkerens Efterårsudstilling, a long established Danish design exhibition that has been held for 45 years. Other works were developed in connection with the television series Danmarks Næste Klassiker, in which designers compete to create furniture that has the potential to become future classics in Danish design.
Dýpi began as an entrepreneurial venture founded by Sirrý Ágústsdóttir, entrepreneur, and Árný Þórarinsdóttir, architect. The paint is plastic free, environmentally friendly, and highly breathable. It also demonstrates how abundant natural raw materials can be transformed through innovation into sustainable design solutions. Dýpi was nominated for the Icelandic Design Awards 2025.
The curator of A Space Between States is Ólöf Rut Stefánsdóttir, an interdisciplinary creative director working across design, events, and communications. Since 2020, she has served as the director of Ásmundarsalur in Reykjavík and has collaborated with numerous designers and artists.
Founded in 2013, 3daysofdesign has grown into Scandinavia’s largest design festival. This year’s programme includes more than 400 exhibitions across Copenhagen, hosted in showrooms, shops, galleries, embassies, and public spaces throughout the city.
This marks the fourth time that the Iceland Design and Architecture Centre has participated in 3daysofdesign in collaboration with the Embassy of Iceland in Copenhagen and Business Iceland.
The exhibition A Space Between States will remain open to the public during the embassy’s opening hours, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on weekdays, until the 18th of August.
