Vot eyðimörk Íslands gegnir hlutverki sögusviðs fyrir ferðasögu um furðulega borgarvætt fyrirbæri. Ferðasagan færir tignarlegan, undursamlegan og hverfandi ísheim (e. cryosphere) nær. Teikningar, díórömur, kort og aðrar myndir kortleggja og endurskapa hverfult landslag jökla og eyðimarka og afhjúpa jörð sem í ljós kemur undan jökli.
Sýningin sviðsetur sex senur af jökulleysi: A Polar Planet, From the Horizon, How to Draw a Glacier, Terra Nova, Dioramas of Deglaciation og On the Ground. Hvar og hvernig er hægt að þróa þekkingu til að takast á við flókin og mótsagnakennd öfl? Tæknin sem gerir okkur kleift að nema himininn og kortleggja ísheim í kreppu veitir sjónarhorn til að íhuga og sætta mannleg og náttúruleg öfl sem umbreyta þessum heimi óafturkræft.
Sýningin sameinar vettvangsteikningar, rannsóknir og greiningar á jökulleysissvæðum og veltir upp mögulegum framtíðum.

Á síðustu fimmtán árum hafa Joyce og Bimal skapað heima sem afhjúpa og endurspegla hvernig mannkynið hefur borgarvætt jörðina. Þau stofnuðu Plan B Architecture & Urbanism til að kanna og æfa ný tengsl milli manns og jarðar og möguleika hönnunar á hnattrænum skala. Þau kenna við Arkitektaskóla Yale, þar sem Joyce er aðstoðarprófessor og Bimal er aðstoðardeildarforseti og forstöðumaður framhaldsnáms.

Iceland’s wet desert provides the setting for a journey through an overwhelmingly urban construct shaped by humans. This travelogue brings the sublime curiosities of the vanishing cryosphere into close view. Drawings, dioramas, maps, and images chart and reconstruct the transient glacial and desert landscapes to expose the ground emerging from under glaciers.
Six views stage and anticipate scenes of deglaciation: A Polar Planet, From the Horizon, How to Draw a Glacier, Terra Nova, Dioramas of Deglaciation, and On the Ground. Where and how to find the wisdom to address complex and contradictory forces? Technologies that enable us to occupy the skies and chart the cryosphere in crisis also afford us the vantage points from which to reflect and reconcile human and natural forces irrevocably transforming these environments.
This exhibition brings together field drawings, research, and analysis to break ground on postglacial terrain and consider alternative futures.

Bio
Over the last 15 years, Joyce and Bimal have been making worlds that reveal and reflect on how humans have urbanized the planet. They founded Plan B Architecture & Urbanism to explore and rehearse new relationships between humans and the earth and the possibilities of design at the planetary scale. They teach at the Yale School of Architecture, where Joyce is an Assistant Professor and Bimal is an Assistant Dean and Director of Post Professional Studies.
